These tales are excellent examples of the way Holmes tells stories. That's why I'm very doubtful about LION. It's so Watson! Holmes mellowed over the years of being with him of course, but not to the point of waxing poetic about female beauty and nature. I have GLOR and MUSG bookmarked for when I need a reference for writing Holmes's POV.
Excellent point about Lister's influence! It gives me hope about tidiness of Baker Street rooms and the Sussex house :)
Also great point about Holmes explicitly stating that he moved to London (after the university). So the University of London is out. It should be Oxford or Cambridge. I suppose, he must have studied there something else like chemistry, law, history, arts? And then when he realised what kind of expertise he needed to pursue a career he invented for himself, he came to London and started to study medicine, crime, etc.
